I have been a little quiet lately!  I have good reason… I am enjoying my last couple of weeks of pregnancy before we welcome another little miracle into our world.

Pregnancy is a very reflective time, don’t you think?  I feel excited about the future as a family of four (six if you include the cat and the dog!), have a little trepidation after the experience we had with Eden, but also a lot of hope that things will be different with this baby, in many ways. My approach to my wellness and the wellness of my family is now certainly very different and improved!  Also, with my beautiful Eden I had to go back to work when she was just a year old and I found this so hard.  I plan for things to be different this time.  I know that I should be grateful that we had that full year together, as many people don’t even get this long, but for me and Eden it was just too early.  I think about all those moments missed – the smiles, the developments and all those times she needed me and looked for me and I wasn’t there for her.  We were blessed to find a wonderful carer, so I never worried about Eden’s welfare and knew she was being loved and looked after just as if she was this lady’s own daughter, but even still.

In the same breath I have reflected a lot in the last few weeks how for some reason, each time I have been employed, I have not only lost out on time with my daughter, but the essence of who I am, what makes me ME and the things that make me happy, even if I love the job I am in. Working for myself enables me to choose how I spend my time, what I think about, who I connect with.  And call me a sensitive soul, but this really affects my happy bubble!  And of course the best thing about working for myself is that I can be a mum to Eden and I will be able to be a mum to this next baby and see his or her first smile, first crawl, first walk and it’s not just all the “firsts”! My husband and I are so surprised each day how much Eden develops, what she learns and how she learns it, instead of guessing like I did when she was in childcare I am part of that journey every day.

Don’t get me wrong, she still spends some time away from me!  I don’t think I would get any work done at all if she didn’t.  However, our days work for both of us – lots of mummy and Eden time, we go to Playcentre twice a week and on the days we don’t want to go anywhere at all, we don’t!  I get to be there at her athletics sessions, take her to the beach, to the library and we have endless fun at home painting, reading, creating.  I try to fit my work around her naps or get her settled into an activity, so that I can spend an hour on the laptop or phone here and there – to our convenience.
